A Tanker Carrying Non-Iranian Oil Managed To Pass Through The Strait Of Hormuz

The ship is bound for Pakistan.

The oil tanker Karachi has passed through the Strait of Hormuz and is on its way to Pakistan. Only a small number of ships have been able to leave the Persian Gulf since U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran began, according to Bloomberg.

Karachi, controlled by the National Shipping Corporation of Pakistan, made the perilous journey over Sunday, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

By Monday morning, the Pakistan-flagged tanker was spotted in waters off Oman's Sohar. The ship left Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates last month and picked up a cargo from the Persian Gulf within days.

MarineTraffic said it was the first non-Iranian cargo to pass through the Strait of Hormuz with its AIS on.

Karachi, carrying oil from Abu Dhabi, became the first non-Iranian cargo to pass through the bottleneck while broadcasting its AIS signal.

This indicates that some cargoes may be getting negotiated safe passage, analysts said.

The transit comes after weeks of significantly reduced traffic through the strategic waterway.
