And I remembered Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump has called on European countries to support a military operation against Iran and warned of possible consequences for NATO if allies do not help secure the Strait of Hormuz. He said this in an interview with Financial Times.
Trump said states that benefit from shipping through the strait should participate in its defense. He stressed that a refusal to help or a negative response from allies could have a negative impact on the future of the North Atlantic Alliance.
The American leader also criticized NATO, recalling the support the U.S. has given to Ukraine. Trump noted that Washington had helped Kiev despite the considerable distance between the countries and expressed doubt that the allies would return similar support to the United States.
In addition, he said he expected China's involvement in securing the strait. According to Trump, Beijing has an interest in the stability of the route, as about 90 percent of China's oil imports pass through it.
