Massive Protests Have Swept Cuba

The situation has become critical.

Mass protests broke out in the Cuban municipality of Moron (Ciego de Avila province) on the evening of March 13. Residents took to the streets because of prolonged power cuts, problems with food and worsening general living conditions amid the economic crisis.

According to data by Ciber Cuba, the local headquarters of the Communist Party of Cuba was set on fire during the riots. Security forces tried to disperse the demonstrators, using special forces and service dogs.

Local journalist Jose Raul Gallego reported that a young man was shot in the thigh during the clashes. According to his information, the shot was fired by a police officer.

Actions in Moron were part of mass protests sweeping different regions of Cuba. In recent months, the economic situation on the island has become critical: residents have faced shortages of fuel, food and total blackouts.

As noted in Ciber Cuba, many residents of the island are waiting for the US reaction to what is happening. However, Washington has not officially commented on the protests in Cuba so far.
