Axios: Trump Refused To Cooperate With Putin On Iran

It was about 450 kilograms of enriched uranium.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a telephone conversation with US President <>Donald Trump on March 9, proposed an option in which enriched uranium from Iran could be exported for storage in Russia. However, the American leader did not support this initiative and refused such a proposal.

According to the Axios.

Sources say that the matter concerns about 450 kilograms of uranium enriched to a level of about 60%. Such material, if further enriched, could reach weapons grade in a matter of weeks and is theoretically enough to produce more than ten nuclear warheads. Establishing control over this stockpile is seen by Israel and the US as a key strategic objective.

"During a phone call with Trump on Monday, Putin raised several ideas for ending the war between the US and Iran. The proposal to use uranium was one of them," the report said.

A U.S. official confirmed that such an option was indeed discussed but was ultimately rejected. He said the proposal had been made to Trump before, but was not accepted, and the official US position is that the primary concern remains the safety and security of uranium stockpiles.
