Putin Demanded Money From Lukashenko For "Oreshnik"

The dictator could have spent hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars.

Belarus' dictator Alexander Lukashenko, answering questions from propagandists, said the country had bought the Oreshnik missile system from Russia. His words are quoted by the BelTA agency.

"Thanks to Putin - it's his help personally. I asked him - he did it. Paid money for it. Thank you! But we bought this weapon," he said.

It should be noted that the exact official price of the Oreshnik missile system is not available in open sources - it is classified. But analysts make estimates for similar missiles. It is assumed that the price of one Oreshnik missile is roughly comparable to the Russian RS-24 Yars intercontinental missile. The cost of the Yars was estimated at about $40 million dollars. Therefore, many experts believe that one Oreshnik missile may cost about 30-50 million dollars.

The missile system is not only a missile. It includes: a mobile launcher, transport and loading vehicles, a command post, and communications and maintenance systems.

Similar to other strategic missile systems, one complete complex (division) can cost hundreds of millions of dollars, sometimes up to ~$1 billion, depending on the number of launchers and missiles. This is an estimate for similar systems, as exact figures are not disclosed.
