All those responsible must be held accountable.
Lithuania "strongly welcomes" the decision of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and its prosecutor's office to open an investigation into "crimes against humanity committed by the Lukashenko regime against the people of Belarus," Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kiastutis Budrys said.
The official recalled that it was Lithuania that sent materials to the ICC in 2024 that convinced the court to open an investigation.
"No regime should think it can torture, deport, persecute or silence its opponents and citizens without consequences. Justice must be served," Budrys wrote on social media X. "Widespread and systematic attacks on civilians must be met with a clear and consistent accountability mechanism. All perpetrators must be held accountable."
Reminder, on March 12, the ICC opened an investigation on Lithuania's materials on cross-border crimes against humanity committed by the Lukashenko regime.
