Ukraine And Romania To Produce Combat Drones Together

The countries will also cooperate in the energy sector.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and his Romanian counterpart Nicusor Dan signed several strategic partnership agreements between their countries in Bucharest on Thursday, March 12, including the joint production of attack drones in Romania using Ukrainian expertise and with the support of the European Union's SAFE defense fund, dpa news agency reported.

Another agreement - on energy - envisages, in particular, the launch of two new power transmission lines between Romania and the Chernivtsi region of Ukraine. In addition, the presidents discussed potential cooperation between their countries in oil and gas production in the Black Sea.

Vladimir Zelensky promised to strengthen the protection of the Romanian minority in Ukraine. Previously, the situation of ethnic Romanians in Ukraine caused friction between the two countries. However, the former "historical distrust" between Kiev and Bucharest dissipated with the start of Russia's war of aggression, Nicusor Dan said.

The Ukrainian president plans to conclude his visit to Romania with a visit to an air base near the southeastern city of Fetesti, where Ukrainian servicemen are trained to fly F-16 fighter jets.
