The FBI has joined the search.
Retired Air Force Major General William Neil McCasland, who ran a lab at Wright-Patterson base linked to UFO stories, has gone missing in the US. The FBI has joined the search.
The CNN reports.
The search is on for nearly two weeks for missing retired U.S. Air Force Major General William Neal McCasland in New Mexico. The high-ranking officer, whose career was inextricably linked to cutting-edge space developments and UFO mysteries, disappeared under circumstances that have already been called a "national security crisis."
Chronology of the mysterious disappearance
According to the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office, William Neal McCasland disappeared on Friday, February 27, 2026. At about 11:00 a.m., the 68-year-old general left his home on foot, likely for a walk or jog, and has not been in contact with family or friends since.
The investigation is concerned that the general, who is a seasoned activist and mountain hiker, left his cell phone and watch at home, which was quite uncharacteristic for him.
The next day, authorities declared a "Silver Alert," a search mode for elderly people with medical problems. The general's wife, Susan Wilkerson, later clarified that the issue was not dementia, but "some medical risk" did exist.
Despite hundreds of volunteers, helicopters and search dogs, not a single lead was found in 13 days of searching.
Why this is a state-level case
The FBI and specialists at Kirtland Air Force Base have officially joined the search. You bet, McCasland isn't just a military retiree. He is considered one of the most experienced officers in the U.S. Air Force. In addition, according to the Air Force, McCasland has held some of the most sensitive positions in the U.S. military.
The general's record includes positions where he had access to some of the most closely guarded U.S. secrets, including being:
Chief Engineer for the U.S. Department of Defense's GPS program;
Director of the Space Laser Project Management System Program;
Director of Special Programs at the Pentagon.
He also commanded Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, a base that has long figured in popular theories about possible UFO-related debris research.
And after his retirement, McCasland worked with Tom DeLong's To The Stars, a company that studies unidentified anomalous phenomena.

Conspiracy or a real threat?"
Investigative journalist Ross Coulthart called the disappearance a "national security crisis" because the general "carries the most sensitive U.S. secrets in his head.
The fact that McCasland disappeared just days after President Donald Trump promised to declassify government records about UFOs adds to the urgency of the situation.
The general's wife Susan urges the public not to believe in "alien abduction theories" or special operations, although she herself jokingly suggested that "teleportation to the mothership" would be the best explanation for the lack of any trace of him in the Sandia Mountains.
The status of the search today
As of March 11, 2026, police have asked more than 600 area residents to provide footage from doorbell video calls and car recorders.
The official version now remains unchanged - disappearance without evidence of a crime - but the FBI continues to test all possible scenarios.
