Bloomberg: Iran Has Lost More Than 90% Of Its Missile Launchers

Tehran now has to rely mostly on cheap kamikaze drones.

Iran has lost more than 90% of its missile launchers in the fighting against the United States and Israel, the Bloomberg news agency claims, citing U.S. officials.

Because of the loss of launchers, Iran can no longer mass-launch ballistic missiles as it used to and now has to rely mainly on cheap kamikaze drones, the agency said.

The U.S. and Israeli militaries have focused on hunting for launchers and command posts, not the missiles themselves. The missiles themselves are hidden deep underground in fortified vaults and are difficult to reach. But mobile installations and calculations on the surface turned out to be a much more vulnerable target. This strategy was practiced during last year's conflict, and now it has yielded results, Bloomberg reports.

In the first week of fighting, Iran fired more than 650 ballistic missiles, but many of them landed on empty U.S. bases. As Bloomberg Economics writes, the Pentagon withdrew men and equipment from there in advance, anticipating the start of the attacks.

Tehran has bet on Shahed-136 drones. They can be produced quickly and in large quantities, and they attack different targets every day across the region, from military bases to oil facilities. The drones are inferior to ballistic missiles in terms of speed and power, but their mass use poses a serious problem for the coalition, the publication said. In order to shoot down a cheap Shahed, it is necessary to launch expensive interceptor missiles that cost dozens of times more.
