He never made a public appearance after his election.
Iran's new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, may be injured, and he has not appeared in public since his election. There are reports that he suffered leg injuries in the Feb. 28 attack, but the exact condition and circumstances of the injury remain unknown.
The Iranian government and outside observers have expressed concern about Khamenei's safety and limited access to him. This is reported by The New York Times.
According to three Iranian officials, Khamenei is conscious but holed up in a heavily guarded location with limited communications.
His injury likely occurred during an attack carried out by Israel and the United States on the leadership compound in Tehran that killed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as the new supreme leader's mother, wife and son, and several other senior Defense Ministry officials.
Israeli officials confirm that Mojtaba Khamenei suffered leg injuries even before his election as supreme leader. Iranian state media hinted at his condition by naming Khamenei and using the term "janbaz jang," which means a veteran wounded in war.
Despite a limited public presence, Khamenei's face appears on banners and murals throughout Tehran.
He has long remained a powerful player in the shadows, controlling security and military affairs through close ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Government supporters hold swearing-in ceremonies in support of him, waving flags and holding his photos while demonstrating his political presence in the country.
U.S. President Donald Trump is prepared to further destroy Iran's ruling elite if they refuse to meet U.S. demands. In particular, Trump is ready to support the assassination of Iran's new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
