The Russian Foreign Ministry hid it for two days.

The Russian Consulate General in Iran, which is located in the city of Isfahan in the center of the country, was damaged in an attack on the nearby administration of the governor of the province of the same name, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

She demanded that "all sides" respect the inviolability of diplomatic missions, as well as "refraining from attacks on the security, life and health of their personnel," without specifying who exactly, according to the Foreign Ministry, carried out the strike. Zakharova's comment was published on the ministry's website on Tuesday evening, although she said the attack itself took place on Sunday.

"Glass was broken in the office building and residential apartments, and several employees were thrown back by the blast wave. Fortunately, there were no casualties or serious injuries. We consider attacks on diplomatic and consular missions a blatant violation of basic documents of international law, such as the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963," Zakharova said.

"Glass was broken in the office building and residential apartments, several employees were thrown back by the blast wave," Zakharova said.

Before that, Russia was repeatedly accused of attacking foreign diplomatic missions in Ukraine. In mid-February, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reported about it; according to him, Russia purposefully hit the country's embassy in Kiev.

He also recalled that the Russian Armed Forces attacked the facilities of the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission in Ukraine three times, after which Baku gave Moscow the coordinates of all its embassies, cultural centers, etc. "Despite this, two more attacks took place. Therefore, it was a conscious attack on the diplomatic representation of Azerbaijan," the president claimed. The Russian Foreign Ministry called Aliyev's words "not corresponding to reality."

In December 2024, a Russian missile attack on Kiev damaged a building that housed the embassies of six countries at once: Portugal, Albania, Argentina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Palestine. Portuguese authorities summoned the Russian Charge d'Affaires to deliver a formal protest, calling the attack "absolutely unacceptable".
