What we know so far.
Some Israeli media outlets have been circulating reports for several days about the alleged execution or ritual (on camera) suicide of Iranian IRGC Brigadier General Ismail Kaani, commander of the Quds (Jerusalem) Brigade, which is designed for operations outside Iran. Kaani took over the Quds Brigade in 2020 after the death of its former commander, General Sulaimani, who was killed at Baghdad airport by a U.S. drone.
A number of minor Israeli media outlets first reported unsubstantiated reports of Kaani's arrest and then execution because he was allegedly found to be a "Mossad agent."
There are reports that it was he who passed on information about the whereabouts of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Official Tehran has so far remained silent: no confirmation of the arrest or death of the general has been received. Against this background, the Internet space is flooded with quite fantastic versions - up to the fact that the general has been successfully evacuated and is already in Israel.
