Lukashenko's idea has failed.

Alexander Lukashenko said that he is glad to see citizens of Uzbekistan who will come to work in Belarus. He said this during a meeting with Ambassador of this country Rakhmatulla Nazarav.

- Many Uzbeks live here and want to live and work. These are our people. We invite them with great pleasure, especially those with families. Unfortunately, we do not have the same population growth as you do. Therefore, we are always glad to see very hard-working Uzbek people, if they decide to come here," said Lukashenko.

And then, as in that famous Ukrainian cartoon about the wolf, one would like to ask: "Sho - again?".

Actually, we have already heard it: last year, on April 11, 2025, during a meeting in Minsk with the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif, Lukashenko said that Belarus was ready to receive 100-150 thousand Pakistani specialists to work in various sectors of the economy.

We remember what heated discussions this invitation caused: people were massively indignant in social networks, and law enforcers even detained those who spoke negatively about the possible arrival of Pakistanis. Of course, the authorities monitored this and reported accordingly on negative public sentiments.

Almost a year has passed, and we can safely say that the idea with Pakistanis has completely failed - literally dozens, at most a few hundred people from this country have come to Belarus. And the reason is not so much in the negative attitude of Belarusians to this idea (in certain situations, the authorities do not care much about it), but in finances and economy.

In Pakistan, the average salary is about 300 dollars, and for a migrant to make sense to go to Belarus, he needs to earn much more here - at least 700 dollars, so that, paying for food and housing here, he could save something and send it back home.

Who will give him such money for simple physical work? After all, in Belarus the median salary (the latest data for November) is 2081 rubles, the same about 700 dollars.

And now Lukashenko invites citizens of Uzbekistan to come. However, the average salary in Uzbekistan is about 500 dollars. There is even less incentive to go to poor Belarus.

Lukashenko's statements again emphasize the strategic problem of the Belarusian economy - the shortage of workers, which has been aggravated by the fact that at least half a million highly educated and professional people left the country after 2020.

The authorities, as well as business, in recent years have been forced to raise wages of those who stayed, which increased production costs and worsened the profitability and profitability of Belarusian enterprises. This resource has come to an end. And now the authorities find no other way out but to invite migrants.

Lukashenko does not consider the second option - to stop repression, to restore the rule of law and the rights of workers so that hundreds of thousands of Belarusians who left for political reasons could return to the country.
