The court denied the politician's motion.

A French court has rejected a request by former French President Nicolas Sarkozy to combine sentences in the Bismuth and Bygmalion cases. The politician must now separately serve a six-month sentence with an electronic bracelet.

The BFMTV reports.

A court in France has rejected former President Nicolas Sarkozy's request to combine the sentences in the Bismuth and Bygmalion cases, anonymous sources told BFMTV.

The decision was made on March 9, according to journalists. Sarkozy requested that his sentence of six months in prison in the Bygmalion case be considered already served, as he wore an electronic bracelet for several months in 2025 in another case - Bismuth (more details about these cases are given below).

It is noted that the court still rejected the former president's request. Thus, Sarkozy will have to fulfill the sentence separately.

The sentence in question is a six-month sentence that can be served in the form of house arrest with an electronic bracelet.

What is known about the cases

The Bismuth case is related to a corruption investigation. The investigation found that Sarkozy used a secret phone registered under the name "Paul Bismuth" to obtain confidential information from a judge through his lawyer.

The Bygmalion case involves the illegal financing of Sarkozy's 2012 presidential campaign. According to the investigation, the campaign expenditures significantly exceeded the legal limit, and part of the costs were hidden through fictitious accounts through the Bygmalion PR agency.

As a result, the politician was found guilty of violating campaign finance rules.

New trial

At the same time, on March 16, Sarkozy will again appear in court. It is about the appeal process in the case of the alleged financing of his 2007 presidential campaign from Libya.

Reminder, in November last year, the Paris court decided to early release Sarkozy from prison, replacing imprisonment with "judicial supervision" pending his appeal.

September 25, 2025, the Paris court appointed Nicolas Sarkozy five years in prison, of which one year - suspended. This marked the first time in the history of modern France that a former head of state was put behind bars.
