US President Donald Trump said Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin wants to be helpful on the issue of the Middle East, but would be more helpful if he ended the war in Ukraine.

In an interaction with the press, Trump was asked what he could say about his March 9 phone conversation with Putin and what they talked about.

In response, the US leader said the conversation was "very good" and there were a lot of people on the line on each side. One of the topics of conversation was the war in Ukraine.

"We talked about Ukraine - it's just a never-ending struggle ... between President Putin and President Zelensky there is a huge hatred. There seems to be no way they can agree," Trump said.

At the same time, he still believes that the conversation was positive. Another topic of the talks was the situation in the Middle East. According to Trump, Putin wants to be helpful on that issue, but he believes the dictator would be much more helpful if he ended his war against Ukraine.

"We, of course, talked about the Middle East. And he wants to be useful. I said: "You could be even more useful if you ended the war between Ukraine and Russia. That would be more helpful,'" the US president emphasized.

Rezuming Trump added that the conversation was good and Putin wants to act "very constructively."
