Trump Offered Cuba To Surrender "amicably"

There are two ways things could go.

U.S. leader Donald Trump has said Cuba has two options for Cuba - either it agrees to a "friendly takeover" or it will be "not friendly," though it doesn't matter.

This is reported in a White House broadcast.

The conversation with the reporter initially went into why the US president has so much confidence in Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the context of the Cuban issue as he negotiates with Havana.

Trump responded that Rubio is one of the best US secretaries of state in history, so he is trustworthy, especially since he speaks Spanish, which is the primary language in Cuba.

With regard to Washington's plans for the island, the American leader made it unequivocally clear: either Cuban leader Miguel Diaz-Canel and his regime agree to surrender amicably or not - it doesn't matter, according to Trump, because the US will still take control of it.

"And it may be a friendly takeover. It may not be friendly. It wouldn't matter because they are, as they say, on their last breath. They don't have the energy. They have no money. They are in a deep humanitarian crisis," the White House chief told a reporter.

He also said the U.S. "doesn't want to see that" - Cuba, which has been in dire straits since Trump severed its ties with Venezuela and, as a result, stopped the flow of money to it from Caracas.

"As you know, they (Cuban authorities - ed.) have done very bad things to a lot of people. And many of those people - Cuban-American voters who have supported me at record levels - are very important. Those people are very important to me. I know what they've been through. They've been through a real hell," the US leader summarized.

He noted towards the end that many Cuban citizens - successful people, businessmen - are his friends. At the end of the dialog, Trump reiterated the message that either Cuba will agree to surrender amicably or Washington will take control of it anyway.
