A fuel crisis has hit the island.
Mexico has suspended oil shipments to Cuba because of the threat of trade duties imposed by the United States. This was announced by the country's president Claudia Sheinbaum.
"The shipment [of oil] is suspended at the moment, we seek to avoid negative consequences for Mexico," she said.
Sheinbaum specified that the United States has published an executive order to impose duties on countries that supply fuel to Cuba. At the same time, she said Mexico would not withdraw humanitarian support to Cuba.
January 29, U.S. President Donald Trump declared a state of emergency in the United States due to a national security threat from Cuba. In response, Cuban authorities also decided the next day to declare a state of emergency on the island, labeling it a measure "due to the extreme threat" from Washington.
Two days later, Trump signed an executive order imposing duties on goods from countries that supply oil to Cuba.
