Politico: EU Leaders To Discuss How To Make Europe A Strong Player

They are preparing for a "busy week".

EU leaders are preparing for a "busy week" during which European leaders will discuss "the toughest issues" and figure out how to make Europe a "strong global player" in a world that is becoming "increasingly ruthless." The European publication Politico writes about this.

The publication notes that in the week of February 9-15, leaders will discuss improving the EU's economic competitiveness, reducing dependence on the United States and helping Ukraine. According to former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta, the coming days will show whether Europe can "turn the tide and become truly united, fully mature and independent."

And it is on Wednesday, February 11, that EU defense ministers will meet to support Ukraine. An EU summit is scheduled for Thursday, February 12, where leaders will discuss economic issues and decide the fate of the trade agreement with the United States. And on Friday, February 13, the Munich Security Conference starts, where politicians will discuss Ukraine and the future of relations with the United States. Politico writes that "everyone will be concerned with the question: does the EU have any hope of getting back on its feet without Washington's help?"

"By the end of the week, there may be no answers to these important questions, but EU leaders at least hope to determine how events will develop further," the publication stressed.
