Poland Is Creating A Military Reserve Of High Readiness

The number of military men ready to mobilize will reach 500,000.

Poland's Defense Ministry has unveiled a plan to create a high-readiness military reserve that will be ready for rapid mobilization if necessary, Onet reports.

Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz announced changes to the state's army reserve system. It is about the creation of the so-called high readiness reserve - trained reservists who will regularly participate in exercises. Together with the professional army, territorial defense forces and other forms of military service, this will provide Poland with 500,000 soldiers ready for rapid mobilization.

Service in the reserve will be voluntary and offer various benefits, the minister announced. Reservists will also have the freedom to choose the dates of training exercises and the unit in which they will serve.

The official said the expansion of the Polish army's reserve is due, among other things, to demographic changes that mean the army will be able to count on fewer and fewer recruits each year.
