Azov Commander Tells Of Betrayal Of Russian GRU General Shot In Moscow
Denis Prokopenko

Alekseev led the negotiations during the capture of the Azovstal defenders.

The commander of the 1st Corps "Azov" of the National Guard of Ukraine Denis Prokopenko ("Redis") wrote in Facebook about how the deputy chief of the Russian Defense Ministry's GRU, Vladimir Alekseev, who was assassinated in Moscow today, was connected to the personal fates of himself and his twins.

According to Prokopenko, in May 2022, the first deputy chief of the GRU, Vladimir Alekseev, was the senior Russian representative at the negotiations during the Mariupol garrison's withdrawal from Azovstal.

The general promised the Azovians the Russians' compliance with the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War and guaranteed normal conditions for Ukrainian captives. And it was his signature that stood under the relevant document signed then in Mariupol.

"The word of an officer, a native of the Vinnitsa region, a traitor to his homeland, turned out to be worthless. Regular torture of Azov captives, lack of medical care and starvation are proof of that. Even if Alekseev survives this time, he will not sleep peacefully anymore. And one day the case will be brought to the end," wrote Denis Prokopenko.
