The U.S. Has Urged Its Citizens To Leave Iran Immediately

Because of the security threat.

The U.S. Embassy in Tehran has urged Americans in Iran to leave the country as soon as possible due to the worsening security situation and large-scale restrictions on movement and communications.

According to an official communication of the U.S. diplomatic mission.

In a security warning issued by the US "virtual embassy" in Tehran, citizens were warned of transportation obstructions, road closures, public transportation shutdowns and limited access to internet and cell phone services.

Americans are advised to plan their departure without relying on U.S. government assistance, as flights are limited or canceled and the situation can change without warning.

The warning also emphasized the high risks for U.S. citizens, including the possibility of detention or interrogation by Iranian authorities. Tehran does not recognize dual citizenship, so individuals with Iranian-American passports can only be treated as Iranian citizens, significantly limiting U.S. consular capacity to protect them.

The diplomatic mission advised to consider options for leaving through land borders with neighboring countries, particularly Armenia or Turkey, if safe to do so, and to avoid traveling toward Iraq, Afghanistan or Pakistan, where the situation remains uncertain.

The statement also noted that the U.S. government cannot guarantee the safety of its citizens during departure, and the decision to leave must be made by the individual, given the current risks.

This new warning comes amid ongoing protests and tensions in Iran, with restrictions on movement and communication, as well as acute political and security challenges in the region.

Escalation between Iran and the United States

Reminder, the United States and Iran have agreed to hold talks in Muscat, Oman, on Friday, February 6. The discussions are scheduled to avoid a military clash

The talks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East. The US is increasing its military presence in the region following threats by its leader Donald Trump of a possible strike on Iran, and Tehran fears that any military scenario could destabilize the situation inside the country.

The US is known to have sent an additional warship to the Middle East due to escalating tensions with Iran.
