In Belgorod region more than 220 thousand people were left without power supply after an accident at one of the substations. This was reported by Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov in his Telegram channel. According to him, the shutdown affected Belgorod, Belgorod and Shebekinsky districts. "Due to the fire damage inflicted by the enemy, fan blackouts are taking place. At the moment, there is an accident at one of the substations," he wrote, specifying that restoration work will take at least four hours.

The night before, on February 11, the Belgorod region was hit twice by air strikes. Critical infrastructure was damaged, electricity and water supplies were cut off in several municipalities. Earlier, on February 3, a missile strike on the substations "Frunzenskaya" and "Belgorod" led to mass blackouts of electricity and heat. February 6 and 7, the regional center was again attacked: 80 thousand people were left without light and heat then, 100 thousand - without water.

The critical situation forced the authorities to start evacuation. On February 8, Governor Gladkov reported that the restoration work "does not lead to the long-awaited result." Due to the cold weather, 455 apartment buildings, schools, kindergartens and polyclinics had to drain water from heating systems. The administration of Belgorod has opened a request for large families, families with disabled children and single pensioners to travel to other regions. 12 heating points have been switched to round-the-clock mode.

Gladkov assured that no fees would be charged for undelivered resources, but warned: "a long period" of recovery is inevitable due to the "large fire impact" on energy facilities. "Unfortunately, another extremely difficult period of time you and I will have to endure," the governor stated.

The AFU is attacking energy facilities in the Belgorod region in response to massive Russian shelling of Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The strikes are being carried out on Belgorod's thermal power plants and electric substations.
