The Republican congressman also supported Kyiv in extending the fighting into Russian territory.

Ukraine’s counteroffensive is an integral part of the country’s defense. Only retaliatory strikes will force the Kremlin to the negotiating table.

Republican Congressman Kevin Kramer made this statement during a briefing with journalists, according to a correspondent RBC-Ukraine.

According to the American politician, counteroffensive operations should be an integral part of Ukraine’s overall defense plan.

“I certainly believe that a counteroffensive should be part of the overall plan of action... But shifting the fighting onto enemy territory is also part of defense,” Kramer emphasized.

He added that the U.S. and its allies certainly do not blame Ukraine for such countermeasures.

The congressman stressed that the strategy of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is aimed at Ukraine’s de facto surrender, not at achieving a just peace. Therefore, the defenders must be provided with more weapons to act effectively.

“We must be able to launch retaliatory strikes and take the fight onto enemy territory. Otherwise, he will have no incentive to come to the negotiating table,” the congressman concluded.
