"Belpochta" Stops Sending Packages With Goods To Europe

Starting tomorrow.

Effective November 1, “Belpocht” will suspend the acceptance of mail containing goods destined for European Union countries. The reason is new EU customs regulations for e-commerce, for which the Belarusian postal system is not yet technically prepared.

Starting next month, European Union countries will impose special fees for processing goods imported from non-EU countries. The restrictions apply to absolutely all packages from foreign online stores, regardless of their actual value.

Due to these changes, “Belpost” is not yet prepared to provide European customs with the necessary data on product identifiers. Therefore, the organization will temporarily stop accepting commercial packages addressed to EU countries.

Important note: This new regulation will have virtually no impact on personal shipments sent by ordinary citizens. The restrictions do not apply to packages sent by individuals that are not related to online commerce or shopping (including personal gifts valued at up to 45 euros).

Belpost noted that it is currently working with the Universal Postal Union to make technical adjustments to the data exchange system. Once the software is finalized, they promise to resume accepting commercial parcels bound for Europe.
