Total losses amounted to about $4 billion.
In Russia, from January to November 2025, total losses from economic crimes amounted to about $4 billion, which indicates serious problems in the state administration and the economy.
The Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine reported that.
The SVR said that in the sphere of business and economy in Russia, crimes are most often related to fraud, misappropriation and embezzlement of property, as well as illegal financial transactions. The main financial losses are caused by embezzlement of budget funds and various abuses in large companies.
The SVR reported that economic crimes in Russia are dominated by grave and especially grave crimes. They account for 70% of all criminal activity in this sphere. This indicates that we are talking about large criminal schemes.
The growth of economic crime in Russia is significantly influenced by corruption in the authorities. Most often corruption is manifested in construction, housing and economic complex, as well as in the military-industrial complex.
From January to September 2025, the number of criminal cases related to corruption in the Russian Federation increased by 16% compared to the same period in 2024. In the first nine months of 2025, losses from corruption in Russia amounted to almost 19 billion rubles. This is 21% more than in the same period of 2024.
The most high-profile corruption cases in Russia recently involve the local Ministry of Defense. For example, in the summer of 2025, former Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov was sentenced to 13 years in prison for corruption. Property worth 2.5 billion rubles was seized from him.
