White House Confused Belgium With Belarus And Included It In Trump's "Peace Council" List Of Participants

Belgium did not sign the treaty.

The White House mistakenly added Belgium to the list of countries that will participate in US President Donald Trump's "Peace Council". As it turned out, Washington confused the country with Belarus. The error was reported by Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevost.

"Belgium did not sign the 'Peace Council' treaty. This announcement is erroneous. We want a common and coordinated European response. Like many other European countries, we have doubts about this proposal," Prevost wrote in X.

As VRT writes, citing sources in the Belgian government, the White House confused Belgium with Belarus.

The White House published a list of countries that have already formally agreed to join the "Peace Council" shortly before President Donald Trump signed the agreement in Davos, Switzerland. The list of countries was as follows: Bahrain, Argentina, Armenia, Morocco, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Mongolia, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Belgium. The list with reference to the US presidential administration was also circulated by journalists from various media outlets.

At the same time, with the exception of Hungary and Bulgaria, as of January 22, no EU country had signed a treaty on joining the "Peace Council".
