"This Is Putin's Strategic Failure."

Finland's president delivered a verdict on Russia's economy in Davos.

Now the Russian economy is on the brink: if we take into account the figures for the first two weeks, the inflation rate has reached 30%. In addition, interest rates are at 16%.

This was pointed out by Finnish President Alexander Stubb on Wednesday, January 21. He gave the details during his speech at the panel discussion "Can Europe defend itself?" at the World Economic Forum in Davos, "Channel 24" reports.

The politician believes that Vladimir Putin has suffered a "strategic failure" because of the war he started. Although the aggressor country managed to seize about 20% of Ukraine's territory, a million people were killed or wounded in the occupiers' ranks during the fighting.

In addition, imperial Russia has lost part of its sphere of influence, as the countries of Central Asia and the South Caucasus are moving away from it.

"Zero growth. Lack of reserves. Inability to pay soldiers when the war is over," Stubb described the aggressor country's economy.

He believes the dictator is reluctant to stop the war against Ukraine because he "can't afford it," but Europe is capable of defending itself. Over the past four years, the aggressor has allegedly:

increased the size of NATO;

made Ukraine European;

increased the defense budgets of European nations.

"Let's put things in perspective.... Over the past four years, they (the Russians - "Channel 24") have not been able to advance as far as they had hoped," Stubb summarized.
