Belarus Has Limited The Speed Of Mobile Internet

The changes will take effect in a month.

The Ministry of Communications and Informatization of Belarus has set new requirements for the provision of services by mobile operators. We are talking about tariff plans with unlimited Internet - they introduce an initial volume of traffic, after the exhaustion of which the speed of data transfer is reduced. The corresponding decree was published on January 22 on the National Legal Internet Portal, writes "Mirror".

According to the document, the so-called initial volume of Internet traffic - 30 GB per month - is established for subscribers on unlimited tariffs. As follows from the decree, until this volume is not exhausted, the speed of data transfer is not limited. However, after using 30 GB, the operator is obliged to reduce the speed of mobile Internet to 1 Mbit/s towards the subscriber.

At the same time, users still have the opportunity to return the high speed: operators must offer for a fee either additional traffic packages or temporary periods of Internet use without speed limitation.

Operators are also ordered to bring all previously concluded contracts and existing tariff plans into compliance with the new requirements. This means that the changes will affect not only new subscribers, but also those who already use unlimited Internet.

The main provisions of the decree - on speed limitation after 30 GB - will come into force one month after the official publication of the document.

The Ministry of Communications explained that the measure is aimed at reducing network overload. This is due to the fact that "currently there is a significant consumption of resources of cellular networks by individual subscribers, which adversely affects the quality of cellular communication services in general for the majority of ordinary subscribers who note low data transmission speeds in cellular networks".

The introduction of the initial limit is supposed to balance the load on networks and provide more equal conditions of access to the Internet for all.
