The U.S. president's policies have created too much credit risk.
Danish pension fund AkademikerPension has decided to sell US government bonds by the end of January. The fund fears that U.S. President Donald Trump's policies have created credit risks too large to ignore, writes Bloomberg.
"The U.S. is in principle not a good borrower and in the long term the U.S. government's finances are not sustainable," AkademikerPension Chief Investment Officer Anders Schjelde said.
AkademikerPension, which manages about $25 billion in savings for teachers and scientists, held about $100 million in U.S. Treasury bonds at the end of 2025, Schelde said. Risk and liquidity management was the only reason to keep Treasuries, and the fund decided it could find alternatives, he added.
Schelde cited Trump's statements about claims to Greenland as one of the reasons that prompted the fund to divest from U.S. Treasuries. He said concerns about fiscal discipline and a weakening dollar also justified not investing in the United States.
