Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that if a trade war breaks out, Europe will have no other option but to retaliate.

The statement by the Danish prime minister was quoted by AFP, European Truth reported.

Frederiksen's comment came amid threats by US President Donald Trump to impose tariffs against countries that do not support his intentions to take control of Greenland.

-"If someone starts a trade war against Europe, which I really don't recommend, we will of course have to respond. We are forced to do so," Frederiksen told the Danish parliament during a question-and-answer session.

She added that Europe has never sought conflict.
