Nine newborns died in the obstetric ward of Novokuznetsk City Clinical Hospital No. 1 during the New Year holidays, a source told TASS. According to local publication NGS42, there were days when three babies died per day. Kemerovo Region Health Minister Andrey Tarasov confirmed the deaths of the infants, without specifying the number of the dead. "The situation has occurred. At the moment there is a proceeding. A commission of the Ministry of Health has traveled to assess and prevent the situation. After the completion of the inspection, we will give official information," Tarasov said.
With this background, Novokuznetsk hospital announced the closure of one of the obstetric hospitals for quarantine due to a respiratory infection. "There is no staff shortage in the inpatient unit. About the date of opening of the inpatient will be reported later," - noted in the medical institution. After that, the governor of the Kemerovo region Ilya Seredyuk said that he decided to suspend the head physician of the hospital Vitaly Kheraskov for the time of inspection by specialized agencies. Following this, the regional department of the Investigative Committee of Russia opened two criminal cases: under the article on causing death by negligence to two or more persons (part 3 of article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and under the article on negligence (article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The Ministry of Health of Kuzbass, in turn, reported that since December 1, in the maternity hospital of Novokuznetsk City Hospital, doctors have attended 234 births, with 17 children born sick and "were in extremely serious condition." "Sixteen of them are premature, including those with extremely low body weight. All 17 children with the presence of severe intrauterine infection, including 1 child with the presence of primary immunodeficiency," the ministry said. The representative of the Ministry of Health added that four children remain under observation in the intensive care unit, and another four were transferred to the Kuzbass Children's Clinical Hospital named after Professor Malakhovsky.
