Spouses Dmitry and Olga Kapuzs from Drohichy district have been sentenced. They were accused of "terrorism" and "illegal actions with ammunition," reports the human rights center "Viasna".

36-year-olds Dmitry and Olga Kapuzov were detained on January 16, 2024. The spouses came from Drohichy district and lived near the Belarus-Ukraine border. After the detention, the state television broadcast a propaganda video in which both were accused of smuggling from Ukraine. Then a group of 12 people was detained in total. According to the propagandists' version, the couple allegedly worked for Ukraine's special services. It was claimed that the residents of Drohichy district helped the SBU - they took explosives and made caches on the territory of Belarus.

The propaganda video showed how Dmitri was shot in the thigh during the detention, and later - how he moves on crutches.

The couple was charged under Article 289 of the Criminal Code (Act of terrorism) and under Part 4 of Article 295 of the Criminal Code (Illegal acts with firearms, ammunition and explosives). Dmitriy was sentenced to 24 years in a penal colony, and Olga - 21 years. They were also awarded large fines. The essence of the charges is unknown, the trial was held in closed mode.

In the summer of 2025, the spouses were included in the "list of terrorists".
