The German chancellor praised the demonstrators' courage.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz believes the regime in Iran will fall soon.
His statement on Tuesday is quoted by Tagesschau.
Speaking during a visit to India, Merz once again called on Iranian authorities to stop violence against protesters.
"If the regime can only hold on to power through violence, then it is effectively finished. I believe we are now witnessing the last days and weeks of this regime," the German prime minister said during his visit to India.
The day before, Merz condemned Iranian security forces' violence against peaceful protesters, calling it "disproportionate" and "brutal."
"I call on the Iranian leadership to protect its population, not threaten it," he said.
Mertz praised the courage of the demonstrators who are peacefully demanding freedom in their country. He emphasized that it was their right.
In the meantime, European diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas said the EU could impose new sanctions on Iran after a brutal crackdown on anti-government protests that could have left hundreds dead.
