Russia has complained about a drone attack on the Samara region. Explosions at the height of the declared "UAV threat" were heard in the city of Syzran, where a large oil refinery is located, OBOZ.UA reports.
At the territory of the enterprise after the explosions, locals observed a powerful fire. Images from the scene appeared online, they were collected by the Telegram channel Exilenova+.
What is known
On the night of December 5, explosions erupted in Russia's Syzran at the height of the "UAV threat".
After them, locals noticed a fire on the territory of the Syzran refinery - one of the largest fuel refineries in Rosneft's system. The blaze at the refinery was visible kilometers away from the site of the hit, according to footage shot by the Russians.
Citing local residents that the Syzran refinery was "under attack and on fire", the independent Russian publication ASTRA reported, among others.
The fact of the drone attack on this Russian city after 2 a.m. Kiev time was also confirmed by the head of the Syzran city district Sergei Volodchenkov.

"Dear residents! In connection with the attack of UAVs in the city sirens are sounding. Warning systems are working. Operational services are taking all necessary measures to ensure safety. Please remain calm and do not leave residential buildings without necessity," the official wrote.
He also warned Russians against approaching "possible UAV crash sites" and asked them to "refrain from distributing photos and videos of drones on social networks" and "not to comment on the work of the services."

The Russians heeded the request - and leaked a lot of footage of the refinery fire.
According to open sources, the Syzran Oil Refinery supplies fuel to Samara, Saratov, Penza Oblasts and partially to regions of Central Russia. It has access to railroad and river routes, which allows it to ship its products both within the Russian Federation and for export via the Volga and Caspian ports.

The refinery produces a wide range of products: gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, which makes it critical for the regional agricultural sector and transportation.
It also has military significance for the aggressor state, as it supplies fuel to airfields and military units in the Central and Southern districts of the Russian Federation.

The main activity is the processing of toll oil. The refinery's capacity is 8.9 million tons of oil per year.
Bearing in mind the above, there is no way this refinery could have escaped the attention of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
In 2025, the facility has been attacked at least six times - not including this night's attacks.
After a drone attack in February, the refinery temporarily suspended operations.
On the night of March 4, it was hit again.
Explosions at the Syzran refinery were also heard on the nights of August 15, 24 and 30.
