Pistorius: Baltic Sea Becomes An Arena Of Confrontation With Russia

He called on European allies to rapidly develop the continent's defense capabilities.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Russia is stepping up hybrid attacks against European nations to test their resilience, including in the Baltic Sea.

He said this on Tuesday at the Berlin Security Conference.

Pistorius urged European allies to rapidly develop the continent's defense capabilities, pointing to the growing threat from Russia.

- Moscow is already carrying out hybrid attacks against us all through cyberattacks, espionage, sabotage and disinformation," the German Defense Minister said.

- The Baltic Sea, long considered a bridge between European countries, is increasingly becoming an arena of confrontation - in its own special way. It is Putin's testing ground for our ability to deter and react," he added.

Pistorius also mentioned damaged submarine cables, airspace violations and drone overflights.

- We can no longer talk about accidents. This is a strategy. These are precursors," the German official opined.
