Le Monde: The Battle For Control Of EU Diplomacy Is Worthy Of "Game Of Thrones"

Kaya Kallas is trying to step out of von der Leyen's shadow.

A battle for control over Eurodiplomacy, comparable to the TV series "Game of Thrones", is unfolding in the European Commission. French newspaper Le Monde writes about it.

"(Head of the European Commission - note) Ursula von der Leyen is concentrating more and more prerogatives in her hands to the detriment of the historical diplomatic service headed by Estonian Kaia Kallas, which seems to be in isolation," the newspaper said.

According to Le Monde, since her appointment at the end of 2024, Kaja Kallas, the head of eurodiplomacy, has been trying to step out of the shadow of von der Leyen, who holds a commanding position in dealing with important diplomatic and security issues.

The newspaper notes that at the European Commission, the battle for control of diplomacy is "worthy of 'Game of Thrones'."
