Poland has already backed Vilnius and postponed the opening of border crossings.
Latvian and Estonian authorities are ready to close checkpoints on the border with Belarus out of solidarity with Vilnius, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginenė said. Her words are quoted by the LRT portal.
The politician noted that Poland has already "shown solidarity" and has not opened checkpoints on the Polish-Belarusian border.
"I received the same assurances from the prime ministers of Latvia and Estonia. If we see that we don't control the situation and the Belarusian regime continues its aggression against us, they are also ready to show solidarity," Ruginenė stressed.
September 12, Poland closed the border with Belarus for an indefinite period. On September 25, Warsaw made concessions, but four of the six checkpoints remain closed. Poland was expected to open several more points in November.
Lithuania closed the border with Belarus in late October for one month. An exception was made for diplomats and Lithuanian and EU citizens returning home. The decision was taken in response to the appearance of weather probes in the country's airspace, which, according to the Lithuanian authorities, are used for smuggling and pose a threat to civil aviation.
