France Is No Longer Holding Durov Back
Pavel Durov

The creator of Telegram was allowed to reside in the UAE.

France has lifted the entry ban on Telegram founder Pavel Durov, who is under investigation for illegal content in his messenger, Le Monde reported on November 13.

In July, the entrepreneur, who was initially banned from leaving France, had his preventive measure relaxed - he was allowed to reside in the United Arab Emirates, where Telegram is based, for no more than two consecutive weeks.

The travel ban has now been completely lifted, and he is no longer required to check in with police in Nice in the south of the country. Since his detention late last year, he has "fully complied with judicial supervision," sources told AFP.

Durov has not yet commented on the French decision.

Pavel Durov was detained on the evening of August 24, 2024 at Paris' Le Bourget airport, according to the French prosecutor's office.

On August 26, the Paris prosecutor's office issued a press release indicating that the investigation had been opened on a number of charges, including complicity in the distribution and possession of pornographic images of minors.
