The grandson of the 35th US President John F. Kennedy - 32-year-old Jack Schlossberg - has announced his intention to run for the US House of Representatives from the Democratic Party.
This is reported by Reuters.
The representative of a legendary political dynasty said he is going into politics to oppose Donald Trump and restore America's democratic values.
Schlossberg, the son of Caroline Kennedy - a former US ambassador to Japan and Australia - and designer Edwin Schlossberg, believes the US is now in a very deep political crisis.
In a video message to Americans, he sharply criticized incumbent Republican President Donald Trump, saying that he "threatens the constitutional order and deprives citizens of their rights."
"We are on the brink - Democrats must take back control of Congress to protect freedom and the future of the country," Jack Schlossberg stressed.
It is known that Kennedy's grandson will vie for the Manhattan constituency seat being vacated by powerful Democrat Jerry Nadler, who has decided to retire after more than three decades in office.
What's known about Jack Schlossberg
A graduate of Harvard University and Yale Law School, Schlossberg previously worked as a political commentator and has published articles in The Washington Post, Politico and Time. His campaign, according to media reports, is banking on a combination of "a new generation of Democrats" and the Kennedy family legacy.
Schlossberg gained popularity after speaking at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, where he endorsed Kamala Harris for president of the United States.
At the same time, the Kennedy grandson has repeatedly distanced himself from his cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr. who now works in the Trump administration and is known for his anti-science statements.
With more than 830,000 followers on TikTok, Schlossberg actively uses social media to connect with voters. He notes that he aims to be an "honest, modern and approachable" politician who will continue his family's liberal legacy.
If Jack Schlossberg wins, he will be the first Kennedy dynasty representative in the U.S. Congress in more than a decade - and likely one of the most visible young Democrats of the new generation.
