By $6.1 billion.
Presidents of the United States and Finland Donald Trump and Alexander Stubb will sign a memorandum on cooperation in the field of icebreakers. The Finnish leader announced this on his social media page X.
"Looking forward to visiting the White House today with Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. I will sign a memorandum of understanding on icebreaker cooperation together with U.S. President Donald Trump," he wrote.
Stubb said the pact lays the groundwork for commercial agreements between the U.S. Coast Guard and Finnish companies with which the U.S. administration has been in direct talks.
The agreement would not have been possible without Trump, the Finnish president added.
The icebreakers will be used by the U.S. Coast Guard. According to Reuters and Yle's White House sources, the first icebreaker will be delivered by 2028. The total value of the deal will be about $6.1 billion. It will involve a total of 11 icebreakers. Four of them will be built at Finnish shipyards.
