Taliban positions were also attacked.
Pakistan has launched a rocket attack on Kabul. According to Amaj News sources, at least four missiles were fired at targets in the capital's Taimani district using military aircraft, writes The Moscow Times.
Samaa TV quoted informed sources as saying that Taliban positions in the Spin Boldak area were also attacked. In addition, the Pakistani army launched pinpoint strikes on key Taliban hideouts in Kandahar province, resulting in the "successful destruction" of the 4th Battalion and the 6th Frontier Brigade. According to the channel's sources, Taliban losses were up to 200 killed.
The escalation followed an early morning clash on the border of the two countries on October 15. Reuters reported, citing a Taliban spokesman, that the fighting killed at least 12 civilians and wounded about 100 others.
The Taliban claimed that Pakistani forces launched the attack, and Afghan forces responded by killing "a large number of Pakistani soldiers" and seizing their posts and military equipment. Pakistani authorities, in turn, blamed the incident on the Taliban and reported four injured civilians on their territory.
Another round of tensions between the countries began on October 9 after the Taliban-affiliated Pakistani Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan attacked a military convoy in the border district of Kurram. On October 10, Pakistan launched an airstrike against one of the group's leaders in Kabul, and a day later the Taliban attacked Pakistani border posts.
