Trump Did Not Congratulate Putin On His Birthday

The U.S. president spoke of frustration with Russia's ruler.

US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly voiced his frustration with Vladimir Putin over the ongoing war in Ukraine, has decided not to wish the Russian dictator a happy birthday.

When asked by reporters whether a congratulatory message had come from the White House chief, the Kremlin chief's press secretary Dmitri Peskov said on Wednesday, October 15: "No, it did not." At the same time, Putin celebrated his birthday more than a week ago, on October 7. He turned 73.

The absence of a congratulatory message from Trump may indicate that the White House chief's relationship with Putin is worse than the Kremlin is trying to portray. Trump himself said on Oct. 14 that he was disappointed with Putin for the eighth time in the past three months. He noted that he had "had a very good relationship" with the Russian president. "He must end this war," the US president emphasized.
