The U.S. President was reminded of the country's contribution to Baltic security.
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Álbares has responded to U.S. President Jose Manuel Trump's threats of new duties against the country because it spends little on defense.
This was reported by Spanish newspaper 20minutos citing Albares' statement.
He said "Spain is a reliable ally" in NATO and its commitment to Euro-Atlantic security cannot be questioned.
Albarez said "there is no doubt about the contribution Spain makes to Euro-Atlantic security."
He recalled that Spain has some 3,000 troops deployed to provide security on NATO's eastern flank, which is "fundamental to the security of the skies over the Baltic States."
The minister added that Spain is a "reliable NATO ally" and adheres to the 2% military spending commitment set at the NATO summit in Wales in 2014.
Reminder, yesterday US President Donald Trump threatened to impose duties on Spain because the country's defense spending falls short of 5% of GDP.
