Drones Attack Russian Engels: Large Fire Breaks Out

There were about 40 explosions, an oil depot is on fire.

A series of explosions were heard near the city of Engels in the Saratov region (Russian Federation) on the night of 8 January amid an aerial attack using drones. After that, a heavy fire broke out, probably at an oil depot.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the governor of the Saratov region Roman Busargin and Russian Telegram channels.

According to the representative of the authorities of this Russian region, there was a UAV threat to the region. Air defence forces and means were working in the region.

Later, the Saratov governor said the drones were allegedly ‘shot down’.

‘There is a hit by debris at an industrial facility in Engels. Fire crews and emergency services are working on the site,‘ the Russian official said in a post.

Meanwhile, the Shot Telegram channel wrote about 5 to 12 ‘strong explosions’ that were heard by residents of Engels. However, later there was a clarification on the channel that there were about 40 explosions.

Also Russian media report about the glow from the fire.

And the Mash Telegram channel released a video of the drone flying towards Engels. According to its data, ‘a fire started in the area of the oil depot’ because of the debris.

The Exilenova+ channel also reports about the burning oil facility in Engels, along with the publication of shots from the city. In addition, a number of photos and videos about the night explosions were shared on the network.

The Russian side also did not report any possible casualties amid the drone attack and air defence work in Engels this night.

According to preliminary data of the Exilenova+ Telegram channel, the oil depot of ‘Kristall’ Complex of Rosreserv was probably hit this night.

It was also pointed out on the network that it is designed to store aviation fuel for the local Engels-2 airbase.

Updated: There Was Night Drone Attack In Saratov As Well

As early as around 5am, the governor of Saratov region, Roman Busargina, said that Engels and Saratov had been ‘subjected to a massive UAV attack’ this night.

‘There is damage at one of the industrial enterprises. According to preliminary information, no one was injured. Emergency services are working on the spot to eliminate the consequences,’ the Russian official said.
