Customs Not Let Rare, Very Expensive Car Out Of Belarus

The owner was given a huge fine.

Last year, a Russian tried to take out of Belarus a Soviet car ZIS-110, produced in 1947 and recognised as a cultural value. As it turned out, in July he was tried and fined tens of thousands of rubles, as reported by the press service of Hrodna Regional Court.

The attempted take-out took place on September 23, 2023, when a Russian citizen in a ZIS-110 tried to cross the border with Lithuania through the ‘Kamenny Loh’ checkpoint. The car was not declared and lacked the necessary authorisation documents. According to the legislation, cars manufactured before January 1, 1951 belong to cultural values and are subject to mandatory declaration when crossing the border. The ZIS-110 was valued at almost 610,000 rubles (approximately $190,000).

On July 25, Hrodna Kastrychnitski District Court considered the case under Part 4 of Article 15.5 of the Administrative Code (Non-declaration or provision of false information about goods). It turned out that the Russian travelled through the ‘green corridor’ without providing documents for the car registered in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

According to the court decision, he was fined 10 per cent of the car's value - 60,946 rubles (about $19,000). The court ruling was not appealed and came into force.
