Inflation Accelerating In Belarus

Because of the price rise in Russia.

Annual inflation in Belarus accelerated to 6.1% in August after 5.5% in July. The rise in food prices contributed to it, noted in the Eurasian Development Bank.

Whereas the July food prices (compared to July 2023) rose by 6%, in August the figure was 7.3% (compared to August 2023).

The highest price growth was observed for seasonal fruits and vegetables (18.9% in August after 15.1% in July).

Paid services rose in price by 6% over the year, the same indicator was in July. Non-food price growth slowed to 4.4% in August after 4.5% in July.

‘We expect annual inflation to remain around current values until the end of the year against the backdrop of pro-inflationary risks due to higher inflation in Russia,’ the EDB said.
