SSU Catches Pro-Russian MP Trying To Flee To Slovakia

He was under house arrest.

On Thursday, August 8, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) detained the previously accused MP from the banned Opposition Platform - For Life party while illegally crossing the border with Slovakia.

This is reported by the SSU Directorate in Cherkasy region.

It is noted that the MP decided to escape abroad while he was under overnight house arrest.

The SSU reminded that the MP was informed of suspicion in March for justifying war crimes of the Russian Federation and denying armed aggression against Ukraine.

According to the investigation, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the defendant publicly supported the Kremlin's policy and spread hostile narratives about the socio-political situation in Ukraine among his own entourage. In particular, he shared in correspondence the materials that contained overt Russian propaganda.

In addition, it was found that he initiated contact with former Ukrainian MP of the banned Party of Regions Volodymyr Oliynyk, who is hiding in Russia, and sent him disinformation about the Defence Forces in the frontline regions.
