‘Lukashenka Behaves Like Petty Criminal Who Should Be Taken By Scruff Of The Neck’

An Armenian political scientist put the dictator in his place.

The Armenian opposition demanded the severance of diplomatic relations with Belarus “until dictator Lukashenka is removed from office.” This was a reaction to Lukashenka's words about Armenia in an interview with the Rossiya TV channel, where he stated that “Armenians are of no use to anyone”.

Armenian opposition politicians propose “terminating all bilateral agreements with Belarus, including the agreement on visa-free travel for citizens,” and “considering it impossible to remain in the same military alliance and economic and customs space with Belarus and immediately withdraw from the CSTO, the EAEU and the CIS”. Meanwhile, people threw potatoes, eggs and tomatoes at the Belarusian embassy in Yerevan.

Political expert Ruben Mehrabyan commented on Lukashenka's statements and the reaction to them in Armenia on the air of “PiKa Svabody”.

“We were not offended. We simply weighed everything that was said and assessed it as it should be. This goes beyond politics, diplomacy, ethics. This is the behavior of a petty criminal whom it is necessary to take by the scruff of the neck, like professional police officers do. He should be handcuffed and isolated from society. We did it our way, to show a petty criminal his place,” says Mehrabyan.

In his opinion, Armenia has not had good relations with Lukashenka for six years. Everything changed after Lukashenka supported Azerbaijan in the war against Armenia, the expert says.

“One of his statements made in Azerbaijan led to Armenia deciding to reduce the level of diplomatic relations with Belarus. But this did not reach the addressee. He decided to continue. Unfortunately, our Foreign Ministry has not responded yet. But we responded as we considered necessary.”
