CIA Director Secretly Arrives In Egypt To Hold Talks On Gaza Truce

The meetings planned have become known.

Director of the Central Intelligence Agency William Burns secretly arrived in the Egyptian capital of Cairo to take part in negotiations on a possible truce between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas.

There will be talks about a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, where the IDF is conducting a ground operation, and the release of hostages.

This was reported by Reuters on Friday, May 3, citing its own sources. According to the material, Egypt, along with Qatar and the United States, is leading efforts to mediate between Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas said on Friday it was sending a delegation to Cairo to discuss a ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages in Gaza, hours after US CIA Director William Burns arrived in the Egyptian capital, according to Egyptian sources.

Representatives of Hamas and the CIA will meet with Egyptian mediators on Saturday, May 4, an Egyptian security source told Reuters. It is not yet known whether they will meet separately or together.

“Last month, Egypt launched new efforts to restart negotiations. Cairo is concerned about the prospect of an Israeli ground operation against Hamas in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where more than one million people have taken refuge,” Reuters claims.

Egyptian sources say both sides have recently made some concessions that have led to progress in negotiations, although Israel continues to say an operation in Rafah is imminent.

The publication also writes that Hamas representatives said their delegates were heading to Cairo in a “positive mood” after studying the latest proposal for a truce agreement.
