Brest Activist Volunteered And Fought In Ukraine Until The Age Of 60

He went through the hottest spots of the war.

A Belarusian volunteer with the call sign Bacha fought in Ukraine until he was almost 60. He had previously fought in Afghanistan. He was never wounded. Tribuna wrote about the story of 'Bacha', who left Belarus after the 2020 elections under threat of repression.

In Brest, the man worked as a crane operator at a construction site. After meeting independent trade unions, he began to defend his rights. He held actions against the 'Russian World' and the 'Union State'.

At the end of February 2022, 'Bacha' decided to go to Ukraine, was part of the Belarusian company at Azov, then - in the Volat Battalion of the Kalinouski Regiment. He fought for more than two years, was in Bakhmut. In his unit, he tried to maintain discipline, and urged people to speak Belarusian. He is convinced that a "more rigorous and diligent" selection of volunteers is needed: "We should not run for quantity, but for quality." After 26 months of service, at the age of 60, Bacha retired, since the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not sign contracts with foreigners at that age. But he did not want to serve in the rear, as they suggested, and in addition, he had health problems – he returned to Poland, "applied for refugee status".
